Description: The active ingredient of our DMSO is ultrapure
spectrophotometric grade, 99.9% dimethyl sulfoxide.
Purpose: Proposed topical anti-inflammatory analgesic agent and penetrant carrier to enhance absorption. Indications and usage: DMSO has been used to treat the following conditions; athletic injuries, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, thermal burns of the 1st and 2nd degree, radiation burns, frostbite and more. How supplied: Topical solutions formulated for maximum performance. With unsurpassed quality, rapid penetration, and minimal skin irritation, our DMSO is what all other brands are compared to. Contraindications: Do not use DMSO if you are taking the prescription drug Clinoril (possible temporary numbness of the extremities), or if you have a known allergy to DMSO. Precautions: Insufficient information is available on using DMSO during pregnancy and lactation. Avoid use if you are pregnant, think you may become pregnant or are breast feeding. Some eye changes have been observed in animals treated with DMSO in large doses for protracted periods of time. Therefore your doctor may want you to have eye evaluations. DMSO may potentiate concomitantly administered medications. Consult your doctor before use. Discontinue use if you experience an allergic reaction to DMSO. Interactions/ Reactions: A garlic-like taste may be noted within a few minutes after administration of DMSO. This taste may last several hours. Because of metabolites, an odor of the breath and skin may be noticed, and could persist for up to 72 hours after use. Some people may experience moderate skin irritation and discomfort on administration of DMSO. Usually this becomes less prominent with repeated administrations. Rumors of DMSO's ability to transport chemicals through the skin have been greatly exaggerated. DMSO will carry a minimal amount of other chemicals with a molecular weight of less than 1000 but will not carry bacteria or viruses. Clinical pharmacology: Dimethyl sulfoxide is metabolized in man by oxidation to dimethyl sulfone (MSM) or by reduction to dimethyl sulfide (DMS). DMS and MSM are excreted in the urine and feces. DMS is eliminated through the breath and skin and is responsible for the characteristic odor from DMSO. No residual accumulation of DMSO has occurred in man or lower animals who have received DMSO treatment for protracted periods of time. Overdosage: The oral lethal dose (LD50) of DMSO is estimated to be greater than 10 gm/kg. It is improbable that this dosage level could be obtained under normal use. Administration: DMSO applied to the skin is administered in 50% concentration above the neck and 70% below the shoulders. The frequency of administration is 2 to 4 times daily. Physical charcteristics: DMSO is a clear, colorless, essentially odorless liquid at room temperature. It has the empirical formula of C2H6O2S, and a molecular weight of 78.13. CAS number: 67-68-5. |
